1. Google Home Mini
The Google Home mini is a smart speaker with built-in Google Assistant. It is uses voice recognition to control compatible home automation devices (like lights, security, appliances etc), perform simple tasks (like set reminders, check the weather, manage calendar etc), answer questions, make calls, stream music and entertainment + more. Representing great value for the price, the Mini is cute and modern in design and is available in 4 sleek (and funky) colors incl. coral and aqua.
2. Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Gen
The Echo Dot is essentially Amazon’s version of the Mini – it is a smart speaker with Alexa Assistant. Like the Mini, it’s a hands-free device which uses the power of voice to control smart devices in the home along with a raft of other cool things (see Mini above!). The main difference being, the Echo runs on the Amazon Alexa platform whilst the Mini runs on Google Assistant. The Echo Dot is available in 3 sleek colors.
3. Yootech Wireless Charging Pad for iPhone & Samsung Galaxy (+ all QI enabled phones)
Do you have that one friend constantly asking to borrow your phone charge cable? This might be the perfect gift for them! Compatible with both iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones (newer models + all other QI enabled phones), this bad boy allows you to charge your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy quickly and wirelessly. Simply place the phone on the charge pad and you’re all set – no lost or tangled cables required! Great stocking-stuffer price too!
4. Click & Grow Smart Garden
Oh my gosh you guys, how neat is this?! An actual smart garden… with plant cartridges, smart soil’n all! There’s over 40 fresh herb and fruit cartridges to choose from, and they’re all available to grow indoors, year-round.
How does it work you may ask? Well, the smart garden uses a combination of specially developed ‘smart’ soil, sensors and energy saving LED lamps to provide your little herb babies with the optimal levels of water, oxygen and nutrients so all you need to do is pop the plant cartridge in, fill the water reservoir, sit back, relax and enjoy the literal fruits of your (minimal) labour! Available in 3 colors.
5. Google Chromecast
What can I say except I absolutely love these things! We have multiples in our household and have done so for the last few years. If you don’t know what the Chromecast is, it’s a device that you plug into the back of your TV which allows you to stream entertainment and audio from just about any device direct to your television screen (think YouTube, Netflix, Plex, Spotify and much more).
So simple and easy to use! You can also use it in conjunction with Google Assistant on Android devices to take advantage of voice command controls. Just a couple of caveats if you’re buying for somebody else though, it’s best to first check if their TV has Chromecast already built-in or if they’re using any other Amazon Alexa products at home, because if so, the Fire TV stick (see below) might be a more suitable option.
6. Amazon Fire TV Stick with 1st Gen Alexa Voice Remote
Similar to the Chromecast, the Fire TV Stick is a device that once plugged into your TV allows you to stream internet based music and entertainment services from your smart device. Unlike the Chromecast, the Fire Stick also comes with a voice remote allowing you to control the device hands-free via the Amazon Alexa platform.
Again, like the Chromecast, the Fire Stick can be paired with other smart devices using the same platform (such as the Echo) whilst an Amazon Prime membership will unlock thousands of movies, TV shows, ad-free music and Prime Video channels accessible directly from the Fire Stick home screen (or via voice command).
7. Housmile Robot Vacuum Cleaner
A low-cost, portable robot vacuum with an almost 4-star customer rating on Amazon claiming to be powerful enough to suck up pet hair and garbage debris from hard floors and low-pile mats/carpet whilst removing dust and allergens from the air? Sign-me up! A great home tech gift for the elderly, those short on time or anyone that simply hates vacuuming … and let’s be honest, that’s got to be everybody right?! Under $100 from Amazon with a 30 day money back guarantee and 12 month warranty, what have you got to lose?
8. TP-Link AC750 Dual Band WiFi Range Extender
Banish the WiFi black spots at home with this handy dual band WiFi range extender. The TP-Link WiFi range extender uses wireless AC technology to strengthen your router’s existing signal, ultimately boosting strength, speed and reach. The TP-Link can also be used to extend your WiFi to smart home devices such as Echo/Alexa/Google Home, smart plugs and light bulbs, cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles and more.
9. JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
We had a house guest bring one of these speakers over with him when he stayed with us a few weeks back and I must say, we were suitably impressed! The JBL Flip 4 Waterproof speaker has nice sound quality and bass for its size with the added convenience of bluetooth and portability. Only criticism our house-guest had was that his youngest son blew out the bass (on several units) listening to heavy hip-hop on max. volume (we had to laugh!) – probably don’t do that, and you (or the receiver of this awesome gift) will be super pleased with it! Available in 8 funky colors (incl. patterns!).
10. Wemo Mini Smart Plug
And last but not least, check out this little kajigger… that’s right, its a smart plug! The Wemo mini smart plug allows you to control your electronic devices (lights, appliances etc) via a handy app (so long as it is plugged into the smart plug that is). It’s also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant & Apple HomeKit meaning you can control it with, you guessed it, your voice.
Sleek and compact, the Wemo ‘form-factor’ design means you can stack 2 Mini Smart Plugs on top of one another in the same outlet – pretty efficient, eh?
